5 Tips For Gym Adherence
You may have missed your fitness goals in past years, but this year is going to be different. I know this because I'm about to give you the tips you need to get into the gym, get consistent with your movement, and make this a habit for years to come. Not just for the first month of the year.
1. COMMIT
It's great to have intention, but it's time to take action. Make it official by finally signing up for that gym membership. If you already have one but have gone years without stepping foot into the gym, this might be the time to explore other options. Maybe a trainer, fitness studio, or home program, will work better for your lifestyle and schedule.
2. MAKE IT FUN
It's wise to pick a gym membership or studio that is convenient for you but, you also need to find enjoyment in your training. One caveat; new things will be challenging, but your exercise shouldn't feel like a punishment. Having fun, trying new things, and feeling progress will help keep you showing up for more.
3. SET GOALS
Set some goals that don't revolve around weight loss. When you place a high value on physical results, it adds unnecessary stress and pressure. The long-term goal is to make this a seamless part of life. Setting performance goals can be a better motivator in helping you adhere to your fitness journey.
4. FIND A SUPPORT SYSTEM
You can't always count on motivation, and that's perfectly normal. Even us fitness professionals sometimes need an extra push. Having a friend to share your highs and lows with and to hit the gym with from time to time will help on those few days when your just not feeling it.
5. BE PATIENT
Give yourself time! More than you anticipate. It takes time to establish consistency and develop solid fundamentals. This is why I recommend one-on-one members join the three-month program over the 1-month option. 30 days just isn't enough to lay a solid foundation to build on. Don't set crazy deadlines for yourself that will disappoint you in the end.
Start with these five tips to help you get the ball rolling. With time you'll find your groove and start to look at fitness in a different light.
